SUMMARY

Born and raised in Riviera Maya, I launched SustainShift to transform tourism into a force for good. We develop custom educational programs to instill sustainable practices in tourism professionals across Mexico. Testing revealed that engaging content and interactive learning dramatically boost employee involvement and understanding. SustainShift matters because educating the tourism sector not only enhances environmental stewardship but also fosters a culture that prioritizes sustainability for future generations.

I identified a significant need for sustainability education among tourism employees in Mexico, highlighted by the lack of consistent knowledge and engagement with environmental practices. Through surveys and feedback sessions, I found a gap in effective training materials that were both engaging and informative. Addressing this, SustainShift provides tailored educational programs that make learning about sustainability accessible and compelling. This approach not only fills the educational void but also leverages the tourism sector’s potential to lead in environmental conservation.

Outcome

SustainShift evolved into a series of interactive online courses tailored to the unique needs of tourism companies in Mexico. This format directly addresses the observed need for engaging, comprehensive sustainability education in the industry. By incorporating real-world applications, quizzes, and discussion boards, the program ensures that employees not only learn about sustainability practices but are also motivated to apply them. This approach effectively bridges the gap between knowledge and action, making a tangible impact on the industry’s environmental footprint.
