SUMMARY
"The Answers of Fashion" is a multimedia installation that merges interactive visual design with critical reflections on sustainable fashion. The central feature of the project is "The Absolute Green Gown," a piece that begins with question books. Students are invited to engage with sustainability issues by tearing out pages from these books that contain questions they disagree with. These torn pages are then used to construct the gown, symbolizing the students' disregard for sustainability. By introducing a virus called Syphabric, inspired by syphilis. The installation contained three phases Absolute green, Erode, and The beneath. The idea of these is that Can something beautiful, conceal something ugly?
challenge
Starting from my senior year, I decided to work on a project themed around sustainable fashion. Stakeholders include fashion companies, consumers, designers, and government bodies. After a year of exploration, I find out it is hard to genuinely effect or change the ripple effect in fashion industry. Through my research, I discovered a significant gap that only 40% of fashion students around me believe sustainability can drive the industry. This insight shaped my project, aiming to start from small. As a vital part of this chain, these future designers is one of the key. By access to the resources around me to visually and interactively engage students with the direct consequences of ignoring sustainable practices.
Outcome
The final deliverable is a multimedia installation. It consist of "gown", visual design object and media design. The gown is crafted from the torn pages of the question books. It is a dress form expression of the overlooked aspects of sustainability in fashion. The remaining part of the book would be an extra check list of our achievement in sustainable fashion. This installation serves as a stark visual reminder of the industry's sustainability shortfalls, directly addressing the educational and awareness gaps among fashion students. With the feedback of the participants documented in the preface and colophon of the books, it is effectively shows their doubt towards sustainable fashion, both in school and the industry.
