SUMMARY

In "What Social Media Did to Us," I embarked on a quest to understand the impact of social media on Generation Z. Through candid interviews with 10 individuals, I delved into their experiences, challenges, and triumphs in the digital realm. What emerged was a tapestry of narratives revealing both the allure and perils of social media: from identity formation and activism to cyberbullying and mental health struggles. This exploration isn't just about understanding a generation—it's about decoding the forces shaping our society's future. By unraveling these stories, we gain insights crucial for navigating the digital landscape responsibly and fostering healthier online communities.

challenge

Through interviews, I found stakeholder needs in mental health support and safety measures. Platforms should prioritize well-being over engagement. Educators and parents lack resources for digital citizenship. Collaborative efforts could bridge this gap. Insights can inform policies for a healthier digital landscape.

Outcome

The project culminated in a book titled "What Social Media Did to Us," showcasing 10 interviews with Gen Z individuals. Each interview delves into their experiences with social media, addressing mental health, identity, activism, and more. By sharing these personal narratives, the book directly responds to stakeholder needs. It raises awareness of challenges in the digital age, prompting discussions among parents, educators, policymakers, and tech companies. Through these conversations, stakeholders can better understand gaps in mental health support, safety measures, and digital literacy resources, fostering collaborative efforts to create a safer online environment.
