SUMMARY
Janus: The Reflective Odyssey is an immersive video game blending psychological insights with personalized gameplay. Beginning as a quest to explore stress relief through gaming, the project evolved into a dynamic experience tailored to individual personality types. Playtesting revealed the power of reflective gameplay, where choices not only shape the narrative but promote self-discovery and emotional growth. With its innovative design, *Janus* demonstrates how interactive media can foster mental health benefits while captivating players. This matters because it redefines games as tools for self-reflection and stress management.
challenge
I identified a significant gap in gaming for experiences that blend stress relief with self-reflection, particularly for younger audiences facing mental health challenges. Through research, I discovered the potential of personality-driven interactions to foster deeper emotional engagement, addressing the need for meaningful, personalized gameplay. Play Testing highlighted a desire for interactive, reflective mechanics, leading me to design Janus as a game that merges stress management with self-discovery in an innovative and engaging way.
Outcome
The project began as an exploration into how digital games could merge stress relief with self-reflection, initially focusing on broad mechanics like immersive visuals and decision-making. Through iterations informed by research and playtests, it transformed into *Janus: The Reflective Odyssey*. Now, the game centers on a single, detailed vegetative world designed to evoke calm and introspection. This evolution reflects a focus on creating a meaningful, personality-tailored experience that meets the needs of younger players seeking stress relief and mindfulness, bridging the gap between escapism and personal growth.
