SUMMARY
When initially identifying a void between 1stDibs’ high-value inventory and younger audiences, we uncovered an opportunity to elevate the sellers’ stories, tastes, and profiles. Through our research, we developed The Seller’s Atelier: a personalized portal where sellers curate their individualized moodboards. This reframes 1stDibs from a buyer-to-seller platform, into a meaningful, taste-driven experience.
challenge
Within our research, we identified a disconnect between 1stDibs’ sellers and younger buyers. While the platform offers rare and high-value inventory, seller profiles remain transactional. Research showed how Gen Z values discovery, yet struggles to tangibly access this through 1stDibs. We ultimately dove into an area of opportunity of valuing the sellers’ connoisseurship. In all, the challenge was to humanize the sellers into a compelling, digital, discovery-driven format.
Outcome
The project resulted in The Seller’s Atelier, a personalized 1stDibs feature where sellers create curated moodboards using their own inventory. This transforms transactional storefronts into taste-driven archives. By humanizing the sellers’ stories and connoisseurship, the concept bridges the gap between high-value inventory and a younger audience through discovery, authenticity, and identity-making channels.
