SUMMARY

The research began with my curiosity for the future of print fashion magazines in the midst of the rise of social media. I focused on the popularity of interviews, tangibility and editorial work as the reasons for the continued success of magazines and then transitioned into redesigning magazines to better showcase the diverse talents in NYC. I discovered that a great number of users are growing tired of the endless scrolling of social media and value the focused attention print requires. The main difference between print and digital is how the content is shown to the public but both do the same: produce content. Thus instead of competing we can focus on the strengths of each and build a community to help young creatives.

challenge 

My two main stakeholders are print fashion magazine readers and young creatives in NYC that want their work to gain more exposure. The opportunity I found was a platform to bridge the gap between creative professionals and the companies and organisations that seek their skills and talent gathered. The magazine I created, Yours, allows creatives to gain exposure for the projects they're passionate about. Yours benefits readers as it is a source of new talent, thus showcasing projects that grew from true passion for the craft, overcoming the endless scrolling of social media and lack of human personal touch.

Outcome

My project, Yours, takes place in the shape of a print magazine that showcases the work of emerging creatives in NYC to gain visibility from potential employers. The spreads include the artists’ work, their bio, background and contact information. This magazine is published every three months and sold at stores around NYC. Then, it is complemented by posters and billboards around NYC to recruit talent. To find out where to find the magazines for sale and the artists’ work that are displayed, consumers can go to the magazine’s instagram page. Yours addresses the need for personal touch and tangibility in the magazine print fashion industry.
