I learned, read, listened, and observed service and design gaps in airport accessibility, primarily due to its reliance on the medical model of disability. I discovered how this approach in certain airports creates a huge disconnect between their efforts and what travelers are truly looking for. Frustrations include inconsistent assistance services, inadequate signage, and poorly integrated digital resources. These issues often lead to stressful travel, compounded by encounters with rude TSA personnel, untrained staff, and the fear of damaged devices. Many travelers prefer company to mitigate these hiccups, highlighting the need for more diversity among airport designers and strategists and for human-centered services within airports.
