There is significant pushback to the idea of optimistic counter-narratives for garment workers - this is exactly the problem. Many of my Western peers have suggested that to paint a happy picture of garment workers would be to gloss over the pain of their exploitation. While I do not wish to eradicate the very real stories of oppression, Forward urges you to consider why Western media and narratives are committed to only one oppressed narrative of the garment worker. It is my hope that Forward can be a reminder that all people deserve multi-faceted depictions of their personhood. An AI platform that creates positive, empowering images is deeply necessary in a global environment that often suggests that the global East is one-dimensional.
