Born from the need for identity in a multicultural world, Heritopia aims to empower users to rediscover their heritage, connect with others, and foster a sense of belonging. By utilizing sensory-evoking design, the platform enables users to share their own stories, delve into captivating narratives, discover new traditions, and forge meaningful cross-cultural connections, celebrating our shared humanity.
challenge
In today's multicultural world, the question "Where are you from?" unveils profound complexities - is it where you live, your parents' origins, ancestral roots? Third-culture kids, immigrants and descendants often grapple with "cultural homelessness" - a disconnect from heritage breeding identity crises and a yearning for belonging. This void deepens due to scarce digital/physical spaces truly fostering cross-cultural understanding, appreciation, exploration and genuine connection. Through extensive research, we identified pressing needs: identity affirmation, reconnecting with niche cultural heritages, and supportive communities celebrating one's multifaceted cultural identity within our diverse global landscape.
Outcome
Heritopia is your "cultural Pinterest board," offering a quarterly curated digital magazine, weekly newsletter, discussion forums, and events. Our "culture catalog" compiles niche stories, arts, events, and highlights, fostering cross-cultural understanding. Seamlessly integrating digital and physical experiences, Heritopia provides a space for users to share stories, recipes, and experiences, affirming and exploring identities. Through collaborations with cultural organizations, museums, and restaurants, we host events, fostering a unique community dedicated to celebrating cultures. Our mission empowers individuals to embrace layered identities, honoring similarities and differences, cultivating a sense of "home" wherever they go.
