SUMMARY
Our partner, 1000 Ocean Startups, aims to accelerate ocean impact innovation. However, funding is difficult due to the niche nature of ocean innovation, making financial self-sufficiency crucial for long-term growth. To address concerns about funding issues tied to power dynamics within the member's coalition, we created the Ocean Action Retreat based on the insights we collected through desk research, SWOT analysis, competitor analysis, surveys, and interviews. The retreat is a three-day event that promotes funding, community, and relaxation. Our goal was to diversify coalition funding sources and propel ocean innovation forward.
challenge
The insight we gained from our desk research is that the coalition needs more funds, but they are hesitant to seek contributions from members due to concerns about power dynamics. This situation presents a critical opportunity for us to diversify their funding sources to ensure financial sustainability. Our strategy involves expanding their funding sources and exploring new partnerships and donor engagement strategies.
Outcome
The project deliverable is the concept of the Ocean Action Retreat, a three-day invite-only event held at the oceanfront property, attended by coalition members, investors, and key stakeholders in ocean innovation. It promotes funding, community, collaboration, relaxation, and raises awareness. This retreat directly addresses stakeholders' needs by generating revenue through ticket sales, donations, and brand sponsorships, along with the capabilities of fostering collaboration and enhancing visibility. In the long term, it will elevate 1000OS's recognition as an industry leader in ocean innovation.
