SUMMARY
While noticing a disassociation between readers and fashion magazines due to the rise of social media, I conducted research where I discovered that most people picked up magazines due to their design. This insight inspired me to create an interactive cover to engage readers and keep fashion magazines a pillar of the fashion industry. Using a skeuomorphic design approach, I collaborated with an emerging fashion designer to create the cover, showcasing her designs. This not only brings attention to her work but also celebrates and supports the next generation of fashion designers.
challenge
While conducting a competitor analysis of fashion magazines, I realized that although many had aesthetically pleasing designs, they all lacked one crucial element—a direct connection with fashion designers. This insight led me to the conclusion that the key stakeholders who could make the greatest impact in the fashion magazine industry were the designers themselves and the readers. By tailoring the cover design to feature the work of a fashion designer, I saw an opportunity to create a deeper connection between the magazine, its audience, and the designers shaping the future of fashion.
Outcome
After many iterations, sketches, and prototypes, as a collaboration with a fashion designer, we created an interactive cover design that draws inspiration directly from one of the fashion designer's signature garments. This process was not only a way to bring the garment to life but to create an immersive experience that would engage the reader on a deeper level. The idea behind the interactive cover was to allow readers to connect with the designer's work in a way that went beyond the static page.
