SUMMARY

My project focuses on how accessible design can reshape societal perceptions of disabilities and break down barriers in society. I began by researching market information, interviewing key stakeholders and identifying gaps in awareness and representation. From there, I developed a social media campaign titled “Threads of Access”; it includes a multitude of content surrounding the landscape of disability advocacy. I discovered that empathy and understanding grow when people are exposed to authentic narratives and inclusive innovations. This project aims to challenge misconceptions and build a more inclusive, connected, and equitable society.

challenge

Through research and interviews, I identified key gaps in awareness, representation, and accessibility for disabled individuals. Stakeholders, including consumers, designers, and advocacy groups, emphasized the lack of visibility for adaptive designs and disabled creators in mainstream media. Educational tools to challenge misconceptions and promote inclusive design are also limited. This revealed an opportunity to create a campaign that amplifies disabled voices, increases public awareness, and fosters collaboration between designers and the disability community, promoting inclusion and reshaping societal attitudes.

Outcome

The project evolved into a social media campaign aimed at fostering conversations around disability inclusion, with a focus on educating and empowering Gen Z. As a generation that primarily learns through digital platforms, Gen Z is uniquely positioned to drive social change. By highlighting adaptive designs and sharing the stories of disabled creators, the campaign addresses gaps in visibility and representation while encouraging Gen Z to become advocates for inclusion. The goal is to inspire them to integrate accessibility and advocacy into whatever career path they choose, creating a more inclusive future.
