SUMMARY
My project began with integrating technology into fashion that could change the way people get dressed every day. I noticed a common issue among my peers, where they owned similar clothes in different colors so they could wear it to different occasions. I explored electrochromic technology to create garments that change color, controlled seamlessly through a mobile app. This project matters because it changes the way we interact with clothing. It opens up new pathways for sustainable fashion by offering one garment that can transform multiple times, reducing the need for excessive production.
challenge
I identified several stakeholder needs, including the demand for sustainability, customization, and innovation in fashion. Consumers are seeking ways to spend less on clothing but still build versatile closets. By combining electrochromic technology with app-controlled garments, I saw an opportunity to meet these needs. This innovation addresses both sustainability by reducing the need for multiple garments and offers a dynamic, customizable fashion experience.
Outcome
My prototype consisted of a heat-reactive shirt. It changes color when body heat is applied on the fabric, therefore mimicking the color changing garment aspect of my project. My peers were amazed by its color changing abilities, and I could therefore connect it back to my project by asking, what if you could change this shirt to any color you wanted?.
