SUMMARY

I began this project exploring ways to address fast fashion waste and foster mindful consumption. Inspired by the idea that early education can create lasting habits, I designed an interactive sensory book for children and families. The book uses tactile elements and storytelling to teach about the lifecycle of fabrics and sustainable fashion choices. Through research, I discovered that emotional connections to garments can drive long-term behavior change. This matters because engaging the next generation is key to creating a more sustainable future for fashion and the planet.

challenge

The key challenge I identified was the disconnect between awareness of sustainability and actionable behavior. Stakeholders, including parents, children, and educators, need engaging tools to make sustainability accessible and relatable. Through ethnography and user interviews, I found gaps in educational resources that teach children about mindful consumption. Many tools lack emotional engagement or practical guidance. This presented an opportunity to create a sensory-driven, interactive book that bridges this gap, fostering emotional connections to garments and encouraging long-term sustainable habits.

Outcome

The project took the form of an interactive sensory children’s book that combines storytelling with tactile elements to teach sustainable fashion. Each page introduces fabrics, their lifecycles, and the environmental impact of fast fashion, allowing children to touch and engage with textures. This outcome directly addresses stakeholders’ needs for accessible and engaging sustainability education. It fills a gap in the market by fostering emotional connections to garments, empowering children and families to make thoughtful choices that align with long-term environmental goals.
