SUMMARY
Families in multi-child households often face challenges like sibling rivalry, unmet emotional needs, and communication gaps. To address these, I created Family Monopoly: Emotional Journey, an interactive board game fostering empathy, gratitude, and collaboration. Combining emotional prompts, cooperative challenges, and reflective spaces, the game transforms family bonding into a meaningful experience. Through iterative testing, the concept evolved to include modular design and age-appropriate tools, ensuring accessibility for all. This project addresses the growing need for emotional wellness tools, promoting stronger family connections.
challenge
Multi-child families often struggle with unmet emotional needs, sibling rivalry, and communication gaps, especially in cultures where traditional expectations place significant pressure on children. Parents frequently lack tools to manage emotions or balance expectations across children, leading to tension and disconnect. Children, on the other hand, may feel overlooked or unsupported in expressing their feelings. These gaps were identified through surveys, interviews, and feedback, highlighting a need for tools that foster emotional communication, collaboration, and empathy in an engaging and accessible way.
Outcome
The project resulted in Family Monopoly: Emotional Journey, a dynamic board game that transforms emotional challenges into meaningful family interactions. Unlike traditional games, it integrates emotional prompts, cooperative challenges, and reflective spaces to foster empathy, collaboration, and communication. Families who tested the game reported stronger emotional bonds, improved teamwork, and new ways of expressing gratitude and resolving conflicts. By addressing the need for both emotional wellness and family bonding in a fun, engaging format, this game offers a fresh and effective solution that fills a unique gap in the market.
