SUMMARY
This project began as a hope to enliven taste for literature through theatre. It evolved into a interdisciplinary approach to speak about political and social divides and use performance as its medium.
challenge
After my research had gone beyond theory and I met with collaborators, I realized that the reading-crisis is a secondary issue. Thus, our vision for joining together different mediums, talents and genres to put in conversation political polarization became central. The question of literature, nonetheless, remained present. For this particular work, the myth of Dionysus and Apollo and Nietzsche' s "Birth of Tragedy" shape the framework of our concept.
Outcome
The final outcome was an interdisciplinary spectacle Future Chronicles. It took place on April 25th, 2025 at Tishman Auditorium. It was a music-based performance, inspired by the myth of Dionysus and Apollo - how they invent a middle world (i.e., Art) to relieve the citizens of Mount Olympus from misery of life. In this show we united nearly 30 artists from across The New School departments and strived to address political polarization through metaphor.
