SUMMARY
Gathr began with a simple frustration, missing out on local events that mattered to me. Due to oversaturated platforms, Gen Z and Millennials in NYC often feel disconnected from emerging artists and community-centric cultural events. Gathr is an app with streamlined and curated solutions designed to help discover accessible, independent, and local events effortlessly. Through testing, I found that young people want to connect with their communities but lack the right tools. Gathr cuts through the noise, prioritizing what’s meaningful, and helping users engage with their city.
challenge
Through research and stakeholder feedback, I found a need for greater accessibility and curation in event discovery. Young people want to engage with their communities but feel overwhelmed by irrelevant content and disorganized platforms. Additionally, independent artists and small scale event organizers lack platforms to promote their work beyond Instagram or through word of mouth to engaged audiences. This highlighted an opportunity to create a solution that facilitates event discovery, supports local creators, and prioritizes quality over quantity, ensuring both users and organizers benefit.
Outcome
Gathr took shape as an app, providing an accessible and user-friendly way to connect people with meaningful events. It features a streamlined sign-up process for users, artists, and space owners. Catering to newcomers seeking community, artists promoting their work, and venues showcasing their spaces. To maintain high-quality curation, a dedicated team will source and verify events, ensuring relevance and a human touch while avoiding overwhelming or irrelevant content. Gathr helps Gen Z and Millennials foster real connections and engage deeply with their local communities.
