SUMMARY
My project explores the hotel industry through an experimental new lens. Through my research, I created a company that launches solely pop-up hotels. This concept was inspired by the “hype” phenomenon that so many brands use as marketing today. I was able to speak with industry professionals in the hotel space, as well as concept designers to expand and bring my project to a more realistic realm
challenge
Through my research, I was able to develop what my company would bring to not just customers, but also partnerships. A major opportunity would be within those partnerships by becoming a marketing vessel for smaller brands to use as audience exposure. This means that if a small emerging company makes just lampshades, we would partner with them to have their physical product for space and introduce a buy-your-room concept that allows customers to buy those products. We would only take a small cut off of their profit for the sale. This allows us to not have inventory and constantly be cycling through new creative partnerships.
Outcome
My project was extremely streamlined throughout the entire semester, with a clear vision of where I wanted it to go. Where I saw the most change was when my industry professionals helped me develop things more logistically. For example, when thinking about the onboarding structure for our company, it was difficult to foresee employee retention. This was solely because our business focuses purely on moving around to different spaces with just one executive group. One of my interviewees helped me understand that we must onboard from the city the pop-up is in. And have raises depend on the length of time with us rather than skill.
