SUMMARY

My thesis project reimagines the museum experience by combining interactive learning with a focus on sustainability and innovation in design. By making the materials, techniques, and stories behind textiles more accessible, I hope to inspire deeper appreciation and ongoing exploration of these critical topics.

challenge

I noticed a recurring theme while interviewing designers: a need to make knowledge of their ethical production processes more accessible and engaging. While designers were eager to educate, the public often struggled to connect with the information. This led me to focus on museums, which, despite their educational purpose, often lack interactive, hands-on experiences. Visitors crave more than just passive learning, they expressed the want to engage with materials and processes directly. By reimagining museum experiences, I aim to bridge this gap and make the information both accessible and compelling for a wider audience.

Outcome

The exhibit would showcase a wide range of textiles, from fashion to tapestries and quilts, allowing visitors to interact with fabrics while learning about their historical significance. Beyond history, the exhibit would explore contemporary issues like sustainability, technology, and design innovation. Visitors would leave with a deeper understanding of textiles, both past and future. To complement the exhibit, I created a physical booklet for visitors to collect textile samples, take notes, and reflect on what they learned—encouraging continued engagement long after the exhibit ends.
