SUMMARY

My project, “Where shadows flutter, life unfolds” combines wearable art and conservation to transform how we perceive bats. Starting with research into their vital role and ecological significance, then surveying those around me, I created a design of a bat with its wings holding nature's beauty. Each piece includes a QR code linking to conservation efforts, turning fashion into a tool for education. By dispelling myths and highlighting bat’s importance, I aim to inspire curiosity, empathy, and action for these misunderstood creatures.

challenge

I identified a lack of public awareness about bats’ ecological importance and the prevalence of misconceptions. Stakeholders including conservation organizations and eco-conscious consumers need engaging tools to educate and inspire action. Through research, I discovered that wearable art can bridge this gap by transforming clothing into conversation starters. This approach addresses the opportunity to combine fashion and advocacy , making bat conservation accessible and appealing while fostering a deeper connection between people and nature.

Outcome

The project took the shape of a wearable art piece: a shirt featuring a bat with nature in its wings, designed to look friendly and approachable. Inside the shirt, a QR code links to a ‘sponsor a bat’ initiative by Bat World Sanctuary, a conservation I hypothetically have collaborated with. This provides educational resources and an option to support conservation directly. Wearing the shirt sparks conversation, encouraging others to learn, engage, and take action. This design transforms fashion into an accessible advocacy tool, addressing gaps in awareness and creating opportunities for a ripple- effect and collective impact.
