SUMMARY
Beauty Purify is a guided recycling experience that helps users clean, sort, and track their beauty product waste at home. Through research, prototyping, and user testing with everyday consumers and beauty professionals, I discovered major gaps in clarity, behavior, and end-of-use decision-making. Beauty Purify transforms a confusing task into a simple, intuitive ritual—making recycling feel as effortless as daily self-care while empowering users to understand and reduce their impact.
challenge
Beauty packaging rarely gets recycled due to mixed materials, unclear instructions, and confusion around how to handle small or multi-component items like pumps, wands, and caps. Through testing with 15 participants aged 18–32, I identified a core gap: users want to recycle but lack simple, immediate guidance. They need visual clarity, reassurance, and step-by-step instructions tailored to beauty products at the exact end-of-use moment where most mistakes occur.
Outcome
The project resulted in an interactive prototype that lets users scan beauty products, identify materials, follow clear recycling instructions, and track their impact through a personalized dashboard, routines, and rewards. These features directly address user needs by simplifying decisions, improving confidence, and integrating sustainability into familiar beauty habits. The outcome also opens opportunities for brand partnerships and circular beauty programs.
