Transforming how textured-hair consumers discover, understand, and care for their hair

SUMMARY
My project began with my own struggle navigating textured-hair misinformation and a lack of inclusive education. Through surveys, interviews, and field research, I discovered that consumers aren’t lacking products, they’re lacking clarity, credibility, and guidance. I created Beyond the Curl: The Textured Hair Experience, a pop-up event that empowers textured-hair consumers through expert education, personalized care, and authentic community.
challenge
Research revealed a major gap between textured-hair consumers and the beauty industry. Consumers face misinformation, inconsistent product guidance, and low ingredient understanding, while many professionals lack standardized textured-hair education. Brands struggle to translate inclusivity into clear, science-backed communication. These gaps create frustration and distrust, revealing an opportunity for accessible, credible education and personalized support.
Outcome
The project became The Textured Hair Experience, a pop-up event offering expert consultations, science-backed education, and community spaces. This outcome directly addresses stakeholder needs by reducing misinformation, improving ingredient literacy, and providing trusted, personalized guidance. It fills a market gap where brands lack clear, inclusive education and gives consumers a credible, empowering way to understand and care for their hair.
