SUMMARY
My project began with a childhood memory: admiring a Guayasamín portrait at my grandparents’ home and realizing years later how rare his global visibility was. Research showed that while Latin America holds immense artistic talent, its artists lack infrastructure, access, and transparent pathways to collectors. Casa Oleana was created to bridge this gap: a curatorial, artist-first platform designed to expand opportunities, visibility, and global engagement for Latin American artists.
challenge
I identified three major gaps: limited global visibility for Latin American artists, a lack of transparent and accessible pathways to collectors, and weak regional art-market infrastructure. Through research, interviews, and case studies, it became clear that talent wasn’t the issue, access was. These challenges shaped the direction of Casa Oleana, pushing the project toward a model centered on visibility, education, and artist-first support.
Outcome
Casa Oleana is hybrid digital platform where users can explore Latin American art by themes, region, and medium; read critical narratives; and access transparent tools for collecting. Artists can also personalize their own pages to share their work, process, and story. This outcome directly addresses visibility gaps, supports artist autonomy, and offers collectors clearer, more accessible entry points into the Latin American art ecosystem.
