SUMMARY
CONNIE is a crafting-based platform designed to bring joy, dignity, and memory support to older adults with Alzheimer’s. Inspired by my grandmother’s diagnosis, my family sought activities that could bring her comfort. Through personalized prompts and craft kits, CONNIE helps users stay engaged, express creativity, and connect with loved ones. By combining creativity and compassion, it turns everyday crafting into meaningful moments of connection. At its heart are families like mine, navigating life with Alzheimer’s.
challenge
I identified key gaps through interviews with family members, observations, and secondary research. Older adults with Alzheimer’s need accessible hybrid experiences, yet few platforms blend hands-on and digital support. I also found a lack of personalized care due to limited staffing in larger healthcare settings. Families expressed a desire for stronger intergenerational connection while many programs still stigmatize Alzheimer’s rather than celebrating users’ abilities.
Outcome
My final project took on the shape of an online platform designed to support creative engagement for older adults with Alzheimer’s. It provides personalized activities tailored to the user's abilities and moods. The platform also includes a caregiver portal to track engagement and a community hub where families, caregivers, and facilitators can exchange ideas or adaptations of activities. CONNIE also encourages intergenerational collaboration through shared profiles and activities. To make CONNIE accessible, we also offer monthly art kits that includes a QR code linking to the platform, so participants can follow guided sessions.
