SUMMARY
Embody is a curated e-commerce platform that brings together fashion-forward adaptive clothing tailored specifically to the needs of people with invisible chronic conditions. I began by asking How might we make fashion more accessible for people with invisible chronic conditions while maintaining comfort and style? I personally struggle with an invisible chronic condition and love fashion and wanted to see how I could better combine the two.
challenge
Millions with invisible chronic conditions (MS, migraines, etc.) feel isolated and misunderstood. Invisible symptoms impact clothing choices (e.g., pain, temperature sensitivity). Current adaptive fashion primarily targets visible disabilities. Stakeholders desire style without a "medical" look, but face overwhelming online choices and a lack of understanding. Both online shopping (bright screens, choice overload) and in-person shopping drain their limited energy. There is no stylish, single source for clothing addressing specific chronic needs.
Outcome
The project ultimately became Embody, an e-commerce platform for adaptive clothing designed for invisible chronic health conditions. This outcome addresses the market gap where adaptive fashion usually focuses on visible disabilities and provides a curated, simplified shopping experience. Embody helps users, who find in-person and traditional online shopping overwhelming, by offering fashion-first items that meet their functional needs (like migraine relief) in one place.
