SUMMARY
ieldday is a curated platform designed to simplify how people discover nature-based day retreats. The project began with a simple question: Why is it so hard to leave the city for a quick escape? Through interviews, surveys, and prototyping, I uncovered consistent barriers—overwhelm, scattered information, and unclear logistics. Fieldday rethinks this experience by pairing visual storytelling with essential details to make restorative escapes feel within reach. The concept supports both people seeking calm and small retreat hosts who struggle to be seen.
challenge
City residents want nature, but the process of finding it is overwhelming. Interviews revealed three consistent challenges: people don’t know what’s close to the city, reliable information is scattered across too many platforms, and most travel tools focus on overnight trips rather than simple day escapes. On the other side, small retreat hosts struggle with visibility, outdated websites, and limited marketing capacity. The challenge became how to bridge this gap—creating a calm, trustworthy pathway that supports both users seeking rest and hosts offering meaningful experiences.
Outcome
Fieldday ultimately took the shape of a curated, video-first platform that transforms how people discover nearby nature retreats. The final prototype features aesthetic preview videos, clear logistics, a date selector, and a refined map view to reduce planning friction. Host onboarding tools give small venues an accessible way to be discovered without navigating complex marketing systems. By combining visual clarity with practical details, Fieldday directly addresses the overwhelm identified in research and creates a simple, intuitive path for users to plan restorative day escapes.
