SUMMARY

We explored why trial users fail to convert into regular users and found that onboarding often makes value feel delayed, abstract, and cognitively overwhelming. We designed a personalized, gamified demo that adapts to a user’s role, specialty, and pain points, allowing them to experience real workflows in a safe sandbox environment. This approach makes value immediate and tangible, reducing friction and increasing engagement to support stronger product adoption.

challenge

We identified a key gap between trial and regular users, where onboarding failed to clearly communicate Mikata’s full value beyond its AI scribe. Through peer feedback, RN/MA testing, and demo comparisons, we found users experienced confusion, decision fatigue, and low engagement due to unclear navigation, lack of personalization, and abstract value. This revealed an opportunity to create a more guided, relevant, and experiential onboarding flow that makes value immediate and easy to understand.

Outcome

The project resulted in a personalized, gamified onboarding demo that adapts to each user’s role, specialty, and pain points. It delivers immediate, visible value through live workflow simulations, real-time automation, and role-specific outputs, allowing users to see time saved, reduced no-shows, and streamlined documentation. By turning abstract features into tangible outcomes, the experience increases perceived relevance, builds trust, and drives stronger conversion from trial to regular users.
