SUMMARY
MARS Media is a research and publishing platform redefining luxury through the lens of the Global South. It documents design, craft, and cultural resilience while exposing exploitation in global fashion. Through MARS Magazine and the Red Hands policy kit, it merges storytelling and system change, making hidden labor visible, returning authorship to artisans, and shifting how consumers understand value, culture, and luxury.
challenge
Research revealed major gaps across all stakeholders. Workers lack visibility, fair wages, and legal protection due to hidden subcontracting. Artisans face cultural erasure as luxury brands profit from their techniques without credit. Consumers, especially women of color, lack access to transparent information and alternatives to Western status symbols. These gaps create opportunities for MARS Media to provide transparency, restore authorship, and shift desire toward ethical, culturally rooted value systems.
Outcome
MARS Media became a platform combining MARS Magazine and the Red Hands policy kit. Bridging the gap between the glamour of fashion and the policies in international law. Together, they expose hidden labor, credit artisans, and shift consumer perception away from Western luxury. Red Hands addresses worker protection and transparency gaps, while the magazine reshapes cultural desire by elevating Global South craft. This dual system meets stakeholder needs for visibility, authorship, and ethical alternatives in the market.
