SUMMARY
My project began with a simple question: why does real connection feel harder in a world full of dating apps? Through interviews and research, I found people weren’t lacking options—they were lacking environments that felt human, low-pressure, and genuinely social. That insight led me to create Nowhere to Go, a hyper-local nightlife newsletter that transforms ordinary bars into weekly hubs for connection. It matters because people aren’t tired of meeting others; they’re tired of how we’ve been told to do it.
challenge
I discovered a clear gap between people’s desire for genuine connection and the environments available to them. Stakeholders, young adults in NYC, reported feeling drained by dating apps, unsure where to meet people, and overwhelmed by the number of options for where to go at night. Through interviews, patterns emerged: people wanted low-pressure spaces and a sense of belonging. This revealed the opportunity to design simple moments that make connecting feel natural again.
Outcome
The project evolved into Nowhere to Go, a weekly nightlife newsletter that features a different neighborhood each week and organizes straightforward, low-stress bar meetups with exclusive offers. Its structure minimizes decision fatigue, eases social pressure, and facilitates genuine, approachable face-to-face interactions. By turning regular bars into dependable social hubs, it bridges the gap between the hectic nightlife scene and the exhausting world of dating apps, providing a simple, natural way for people to connect once more.
