SUMMARY
Preko Granice is a game made for Balkan and ex-Yugoslav families living abroad. With 75 prompts, it encourages real conversations that help process emotions, reflect on the past, and support mental health. It keeps these important discussions within the family, creating space to share, listen, and understand each other across generations. It’s not about winning. It’s about connection and healing through stories.
challenge
I saw a gap in how ex-Yugoslav families talk about their past. Many avoid emotional topics, even though there is a need for connection, healing, and understanding across generations. Through interviews, digital space audits, and my own experience, I realized people want to share but don’t know how to start. The opportunity was to create a tool that makes these conversations feel safer and more natural, giving families a simple way to open up without pressure.
Outcome
The project became a bilingual storytelling card game with 75 prompts designed to help families start meaningful conversations. Its simple format makes emotional topics easier to approach, especially for ex-Yugoslav families who often avoid them. By guiding people to share memories, reflect, and listen, the game fills a clear gap: a gentle, accessible way to talk about heritage, loss, and identity without needing a professional, meeting the real needs for connection and understanding.
