SUMMARY
Punct is a service that helps art students reconnect with personal memories as sources of inspiration. By drawing from their camera rolls, it guides users in creating a curated archive of meaningful images. Punct encourages students to focus on what’s worth keeping rather than feeling pressure to clear their entire library, reducing the overwhelm that often keeps them from engaging with their photos. This reflective process fosters positive interaction with their visual archives and supports stronger memory recall and creativity.
challenge
I focused my research on art students because of their deep connection to digital photography. This generation has grown up documenting everything, resulting in massive personal archives built over years of constant image capture. Many students feel overwhelmed by the size and disorganization of their camera rolls, causing them to avoid engaging with these images altogether. This gap revealed an opportunity to ease that anxiety and make their archives usable again.
Outcome
The project became a digital platform that helps users reconnect with personal memories for inspiration. Each month, users sort through their photos and select those that spark an emotional response, or punctum. These images are then organized into a separate digital archive. Punct also offers physical prints in customizable quantities, sizes, and finishes, allowing art students to engage with their inspiration tangibly through mood boards or by using the images as material for their projects.
