SUMMARY
We began with Richards philosophy: slow and intentional design. We explored how we could create a brand extension for the Richard Sachs name that honors his philosophy and craft. The interconnection between coffee culture and cycling was our opportunity to create a more accessible entry point to the brand while staying true to his ethos. The extension is built through small roast batches for community development. The product itself is designed to be a souvenir for customers while reducing waste, ultimately creating a sustainable product.
challenge
With Richard Sachs bicycles priced around $5,000, much of the brand remains inaccessible to a wider audience. We identified an opportunity to engage these consumers through the intersection of cycling and coffee culture, creating a product that extends his legacy while offering a more accessible point of entry. A coffee extension is an opportunity to engage with younger cycling audiences and grow Richard's community through community bike rides and brand events and activations.
Outcome
The project ultimately focused on a luxury product that emphasizes the ethos that Richard Sachs follows in his bike development. Our coffee extension emphasizes high quality ethical sourcing and roasts in small batches sold in a tin can that plays with the idea of fuel and structure the way the cyclist and the bike work together. Alongside the tin coffee can we created a membership program for customers to sign up and receive their coffee monthly in a paper bag to reduce cost and waste. Our product offers an opportunity to work with cyclist clubs in New York and have brand activations to get higher engagement with Richard's brand.
