SUMMARY
Richard Sachs would not describe himself as a bike maker, but as someone who builds bikes. Our project aims to mirror his slow, deliberate practice, to share his lifestyle and values beyond his bicycles. After visiting his studio, we created multiple themed souvenir card sets from our photographs to document his archive. These tactile objects contribute to print culture and aim to counter digital fatigue, making Richard’s world accessible across generations. The project preserves his legacy and invites others to adopt a more intentional, craft-driven way of living.
challenge
Through research and our studio visit, we found a need for more accessible, tangible ways to engage with Richard’s work. His archive was rich and deserved to be seen, especially as an opportunity for outsiders to learn more about his brand and history. We also saw an opportunity to address Gen Z’s digital fatigue through print, which led us to create tactile products that exemplify his work and intentional processes.
Outcome
We created themed, affordable souvenir card sets made from photographs of Richard’s studio, process, and archive, with an option for users to curate their own sets. Distributed along cycling routes and online, they expand access to his work beyond bike ownership. This addresses gaps in accessibility, archive visibility, and digital fatigue by offering a tangible and engaging way for diverse audiences to connect with his craft and legacy.
