1stDibs is an online marketplace connecting buyers with high-end furniture, art, jewelry, and fashion. Founded in 2000, it specializes in rare, vintage, and one-of-a-kind pieces, offering a curated, luxury shopping experience. Known for exclusivity and craftsmanship, it attracts collectors and design enthusiasts. 1stDibs aims to reach younger audiences without losing its premium identity. The New 1stDibs Match uses AI and Pinterest to create personalized edits and a Starter Collection under $1,500, positioning the brand as both aspirational and accessible while building long-term appeal with the next generation of collectors.
challenge
Gen Z consumers shop in ways that aligns with 1stDibs, identity-driven, visual, and secondhand-first, but lacks awareness of the platform. To solve this, we meet them where they discover: social and Pinterest, which influences 80% of their purchases. By integrating a matching experience that turns their saved inspiration into personalized 1stDibs edits, we bridge the gap between discovery and purchase. This positions 1stDibs as a tool for self-expression, making luxury feel relevant and accessible while embedding the brand into Gen Z’s existing habits.
Outcome
The project became The New 1stDibs Match, an AI-driven, multi-phase experience combining personalization, Pinterest integration, and a curated Starter Collection. Users link inspiration to receive tailored edits, simplifying discovery. A sub-$1,500 Starter Collection lowers barriers without compromising luxury. This directly addresses low Gen Z awareness, discovery friction, and perceived inaccessibility by meeting users where they form taste and guiding them from inspiration to ownership.
