SUMMARY
The Landing is a housing coordination platform designed to help youth aging out of foster care transition into stable housing. We began by researching the barriers case planners and youth face, including missed deadlines, lost documents, and fragmented systems such as NYCHA, Section 8, and subsidy applications. We developed a centralized platform that tracks milestones, manages documents, and organizes housing resources in one place. The project matters because it transforms a reactive crisis process into proactive support during a critical life transition.
challenge
Through stakeholder research, interviews, and systems mapping, we identified that youth aging out of foster care often face urgent housing deadlines while navigating multiple disconnected systems. Case planners manage large caseloads using spreadsheets, emails, paper forms, and scattered resources, making it easy to miss critical milestones. Youth need clearer guidance, faster document readiness, and earlier intervention. We saw an opportunity to create one coordinated system that improves visibility, reduces friction, and supports stable housing outcomes.
Outcome
The project resulted in The Landing, a digital platform built for case planners and housing navigators supporting youth aging out of foster care. It includes a centralized dashboard, deadline tracker, youth profiles, document management tools, and a landlord resource database. By bringing fragmented tasks into one system, the platform improves coordination, increases readiness, and helps youth secure housing before critical deadlines. It addresses the need for earlier intervention, clearer workflows, and more stable transitions into independent living.
