SUMMARY
Asian Lens is a dedicated platform designed to elevate emerging Asian photographers in New York City by enhancing their visibility and providing a supportive community. Born from the recognition that these talented photographers lacked adequate exposure in the mainstream NYC art scene, I developed Asian Lens to bridge this gap. Through curated online exhibitions and networking opportunities with art galleries and institutions, Asian Lens offers these artists a space to showcase their work and connect with the art community. This initiative matters because it enriches the city’s art scene with diverse narratives and cultural perspectives, ensuring that the voices of Asian photographers are not only heard but celebrated.
challenge
In developing Asian Lens, I identified a significant need for visibility and community support among emerging Asian photographers in NYC's competitive art scene. Feedback from photographers and art professionals highlighted a gap in opportunities for showcasing work and networking. Asian Lens addresses these needs by providing a platform that features their art and facilitates connections with galleries and institutions, creating professional growth and enhancing exposure. This initiative is vital for promoting diversity and ensuring the unique perspectives of Asian photographers are valued in the art community.
Outcome
Asian Lens is a dynamic online and offline platform designed to elevate Asian photographers in NYC. It offers curated online exhibitions and semiannual offline events that function as job fairs, enhancing networking with galleries and agencies. This hybrid approach not only boosts visibility for Asian photographers but also integrates their unique perspectives into the mainstream art scene, addressing critical needs for support and promoting diversity in the art industry.
