SUMMARY
We started by meeting Richard Sachs, discovering a fun and kind person behind his serious public persona. Through desk research, interviews, and case studies, we uncovered three key insights: #1 Richard is seen as two personas; we prefer the real one. #2 Mastery thrives but fame demands compromise. #3 Anti-2024 Anarchy defines his ethos. To showcase this side of Richard and reach a broader audience, we created a playful blind box, launching it in stores tied to his world, fostering community while expanding his reach.
challenge
We identified a gap between Richard Sachs’ public persona as a serious craftsman and his true, approachable nature. Stakeholders, including fans and potential customers, lacked access to this relatable side, limiting broader engagement. Through interviews, research, and case studies, we saw an opportunity to bridge this gap by creating a product that reflects his fun, human side. The blind box format allows for affordable, collectible items that celebrate his brand while appealing to a wider audience, fostering connection and community around his unique story.
Outcome
The project took the form of SachsToys Blind Box—a playful, collectible series featuring miniature Richard Sachs bikes and surprised items. This approach directly addresses the need to showcase his fun, relatable side, bridging the gap between his serious image and his true personality. By making his brand accessible through affordable, surprising items, we engaged a wider audience, including those who admire his craftsmanship but can't afford his bikes. Launching the blind boxes in curated stores tied to his world fosters community while creating excitement around his brand.
