SUMMARY
In a world where fast fashion dominates consumer markets, this project works on revolutionizing that narrative. “Transforming the Fast Fashion Industry” aims to integrate sustainability seamlessly into the wholesale world within the fashion industry. Through research and strategic interventions, this project commits to reshaping the normal practices of a family business, 26 International, to align with environmental and ethical standards. By prioritizing sustainability without compromising profitability, a new standard is introduced for the fast fashion sector, hopefully inspiring change and fostering a more responsible approach to fashion production and consumption.
challenge
The discoveries shed light on the challenges and concerns at hand. One revelation was the financial constraints of the buyer’s demographic, who are usually seeking a deal when shopping at stores like Burlington. This highlighted the challenge of introducing sustainable pieces, which often come with a higher price tag, to a customer base used to budget-friendly options. There was also an unknown from the business itself, driven by the misconception that sustainability initiatives are very expensive. Overcoming this involved creative solutions, such as exploring cost-effective sustainable practices and starting small. By addressing these needs, Riley aimed to make sustainability more accessible and appealing to all stakeholders involved.
Outcome
This project culminated in the development of a denim jacket using recycled cotton, seamlessly integrated using an existing product in the catalog. Through meticulous cost comparisons, Riley ensured that the sustainable option was only marginally marked up, maintaining affordability for budget-conscious buyers. By leveraging existing resources and innovating within the product line, Riley directly addressed the financial constraints of 26’s demographic while offering a sustainable alternative. This outcome not only met the needs of the stakeholders, but also bridged the gap in the market for accessible and eco-conscious fashion choices.
